Jake Lane Wins Livingston District Election; Securing The Board's Conservative Supermajority.

Jacob Lane won the Livingston district special election on Friday, after having shown a strong lead in the beginning of the week, defeating Raymond Bell.

This secures him as the newest acting member on the Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors. This election comes following a vacancy on the board after the death of Barry Jett, in October. Lane is set to serve the remainder of Jett's term, into 2023.

Lane's replacing of Barry Jett comes as no surprise, as Lane and Jett had a reportedly cordial relationship. Lane was appointed to the Planning Commission by Jett, and the two have very similar ideological goals.

After a surprisingly low voter turnout, Lane admits:

"I still have a lot more trust to gain,"

he says.

Recent school board meetings have proven that budgeting have been on the top of Spotsylvania residents minds, and as Lane takes his place as a Supervisor, he'll surely have his work cut out for him.

His first meeting on Tuesday includes a work session with the school board over their proposed budget for the school system. A meeting vital to the board's overall approval by the public, Lane must prove himself as a true representative.

Protests and gatherings have already been scheduled for the meeting, just as Lane will surely take part in a landmark decision for Spotsylvania County Public Schools. One that will draw in critics from all over Virginia.

The board's now conservative majority has a lot of work ahead of them, along with growing pressure from residents and protestors who have been active critics of elected officials, like Kirk Twigg.
